apperance:
Not many would think of Tom and his mother as family if they didn't know the relation already. See, Brooklyn is the definition of petite. She is short, slender, soft looking with whispy blond hair. Tom is tall, around six one or six two. Obviously, the boy takes after his father the most, who was also a tall man. Tom has always been slender, skinny even when he was younger. A healthy layer of muscle
personality:
character's personality ( flaws, strenghts, likes, dislikes, fears, etc.). at least a well-formed paragraph ( meaning, somewhere around six-seven sentances )
history:
Brooklyn and Andrew King were a young and struggling couple when they brought Thomas James King into the world. They were newly wed, having been high school sweethearts and marrying right after graduation. They were blinded to the consequences of starting a family so young until little Tom was born. Brooklyn was delighted of course - what mother couldn't be after peering into the rosey face of their newborn? Andrew was a bit more hesitant. He was beginning to realize that this might not be what he wanted, not now anyway. It took a while for Brook, who was basking in the glory of mother hood, to notice her husband's feelings. By then it was too late to heal the severed bonds. The Kings divorced and Brook prompty switched Tom's last name to match her maiden name - Hawthorne. Now there was the question of how to provide for her son - Andrew wasted no time untangling himself from child support. In all honesty, Booklyn seriously considered adoption - though she cringed at the word - but thankfully, her parents were able to help money wise until she got her feet under her.
Life for Tom during those childhood years were a bit odd and had no pattern at all. The duo constently moved, from apartments to condos to even a few small houses. Tom rarely stayed anywhere long enough to form any sort of realtionships, so he tended to spend his days alone. Even now, in same house he has lived in for years with his mother's steady income, he finds it difficult to form close friendships, and he usually hangs out with a not so good crowd. Anyway, with such a unconsistant childhood like this, one is pretty much required to have some sort of release. Tom discovered girls, smoking and alchol as a young teenager, which mortifited his mother to no end. So, having to "quit" his bad and unhealthy habits, (he really just covered them up to hide from his mother), he turned to a different hobby.
It was Brooklyn who suggested to try horse riding. Like many girls, she had been a devoted horse-lover who hadn't quite out-grown this love like other girls once they discovered clothes and boys. Tom, thirteen at the time, was hesitant to say the least. He was sure his friends, or his so-called friend, would mock him. But he gave it a try, mostly because of his mother's consistant nagging. He was furious when he found out she got him a job as a groom at a local stable, and he pouted angerly. Tom had himself convinced to have a horrible time, telling himself that once Brook saw he didn't like it after a while she would let him quit. His plan worked, for a while. After a while, though, he found himself giving in. This was actually fun and he enjoyed being around the horses. He still kept this part of his life a secret from his "friends", but his smoking and drinking decreased greatly.
About two years ago, Tom met Jane and Paige, then later Kyle and Mitchie as well. They went to his school, Jane and Paige were in the same grade as him, and all four of them boarded their horses at stable Tom worked/rode at. Of course, all of them owned horses and while they usually let Tom borrow one, he started to feel left out. Once again, Brooklyn surprised him. She had a friend who worked with horses out in Utah and Brook managed to buy a mustang mare off of her friend real cheap since money wasn't flowing heavily quite yet. When Tom first saw Desi, her coat was rugged and thick from protecting the mare during the winter, her hooves weren't shoed, her mane was all mussed, creating a viel over proud, strong eyes. She wasn't sleek or well blooded like the other horses at the stable, but then again Tom wasn't rich or well to do like the other riders. They were a perfect match and Tom surprisingly found himself falling in love with the small yet sturdy mare.
Tom had set to work with Desi, whose real name was Disturbia. Most people considered her exactly like a mare, which translated to moody, and though she was still too wild and spirited from her "wild days". Tom has to admitt, it took a while before he and Desi were a team, but soon she came to love him as much as he loved her. She gets grumpy when people come toward her with tack, that is if that person is anyone other than Tom. Tom is now able to hop on her back in the paddock with just a halter and leadrope. It was about a year ago that Brook came upon a really nice job which offered a pretty well sized paycheck. The Hawthornes were able to live in a nicer house, and Brooklyn bought a horse. It was a paint mare the two called Chi-chi and Brook would ride the mare and Tom would ride Desi. Sadly, Brook didn't always have time to ride as much as Chi-chi needed, so the paint mare slowly became understood as Tom's.
Just recently, Brooklyn met a guy who certainly wasn't poor. Tom felt a little resentful about his mom's new boyfriend, but eventually he was polite with the guy once he was sure his mom had no plans to marry him anytime soon. He was fine with his mom dating, but Tom wasn't so sure about having a new father. Anyway, Tom has found himself being a bit nicer to the guy after he supplied a part to purchase a little filly every considered a runt, and accident and not breeding or show worthy. Dove was a product of the accidental breeding of an appendix stallion and a blue-blooded Arabian show mare. She was unwanted at birth by anyone but Tom. She was a nervous thing, but Desi was suprisingly a very motherly and protective figure for the young horse. Tom would often times go out to the paddock to find Dove squeezed between Chi-chi and Desi as they shielded her from the world. Of course, after she bonded with Tom her confidence started to grow. He is now attempting to gentle her and has ridden her a few times already.
