She relies on horses to keep her happy a lot of the time. Lex is very friendly and loves socializing. But Lex can be strict when she wants to be. She can be disappointed at times, but she never seems to get angry and if she does never expresses it. She is quite calm and doesn't hold a grudge.
history:
Lex was raised by a single mother named Lucy Hartland. Her mother had been a horse trainer since she was about eighteen. Her mother trained ponies for kids all the way up to Gran Prix jumpers. But her mother always enjoyed eventing the most, which is what influenced Lex the most. Lex's father ran out on her mother when she was just an infant. Her parents divorced soon after she was born, but it was never a regret for her mother. Her father wasn't the most generous person and when Lex was born he then decided that he wasn't ready for a kid.
Lex grew up in a small rural home in Kentucky. She went to school like normal kids and passed classes regularly with a B- to an A-. But her head was in the clouds a lot because of riding. That was basically all she could ever think about. Her mother decided that for Lex's last two years of high school she would be home schooled. Her mother was busy quite a bit and so she hired a friend of the family to tutor Lex. Lex stayed home a lot and helped her mother train and ride horses most of the day. Her days were scheduled in block periods for school, and sometimes she had lessons on the weekends depending on how well she understood the week's lessons. Lex was never mad about giving up her weekends. She had less school hours than everyone else in town which allowed her more riding time at her mother's stable.
When Lex was thirteen she went to her first jumping competition with her mother on a horse they were trying to sell. They figured that if they could place well, they would be able to sell the 14.3 hand Appaloosa. Lex placed rather well, out of her six classes she got second, 2 third places, and a fifth. In the other two classes she was not placed. But her mother managed to catch the eye of some spectator and sold their horse a week later. Lex was involved in a lot of jumping, but since her mother was an involved in eventing, Lex decided to give it a try herself. Lex loved jumping, but at the time she loved it even more because she became best friends with her horse who was trained for show jumping. Eventing was fun to Lex but she took more interest in jumping which didn't hurt her mother too much. However, Lex started doing more eventing competitions. When she graduated form high school Lex went to Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Mass. to join their equestrian team.
After she graduated college, she took up a more demanding show jumping and eventing career before deciding to be an instructor.
role-play sample:
At first, Lex didn't think she would make it into the top ten list. But after the first class she and nine other riders went in to compete in the final round. She had finished her eventing competitions two days ago and had filled in for jumping for a rider named Madeleine who had come down with the flu. She rode her friend Madeleine's horse for the first time yesterday. Angelus felt pretty good when she rode him, but she could tell they would have a few problems. Angelus liked to fight with his rider when he didn't get to ride the way he wanted. He was an expert at taking sharp turns and high jumps, but he didn't know how to pace himself, which led to knocking rails most of the time with him.
Lex patted Angelus's neck before shortening her reins. She was next up and once the other rider left the ring, Lex was up. She entered the arena, before picking up the trot, which eventually flowed into Angelus's long, but smooth canter. Lex cooed to him just before the buzzer sounded. She took a quick glance at the judges, before heading off to the first jump. It was a small cross rail, to get everyone started. It made the course seem easy, but it was filled with sharp turns, jumps that came out of nowhere, and lots of oddly colored flowers. Angelus hated the flower jumps when they came at him quickly, and Lex had to make sure that he was kept in line. Angelus jumped the first jump with ease, and she turned him sharply and allowed him to pick up some speed before jumping the wall. she took a long approach at the next few jumps which were a triple combination. Angelus rushed the last two, but managed to keep form knocking a rail, however he did rub the last fence. The course was short, but it took a lot of thinking time, that was the judges purpose, to see how well the rider could handle the course and their horse. Lex finished with a triple bar. Angelus had only knocked one rail, which was good for her first competition on a horse she didn't know. she ended up coming in sixth place.
