( appearance )
Emily believes herself to be average in nearly every degree. She is relatively small, as in a bit on the short side with a slim figure. Once a lanky pre-teen, Emily used to look like a scrawny girl with long limbs. Since then, she has grown to fit the mold god gave her, with a healthy ratio of fat spread over her body just enough to give her decent and flattering curves while keeping a flat stomach. Even so, she has always though that she look too feminine, too soft and non-athletic. Emily has never been blubbery or giggly as some call it, but it is easy to see that there is little muscle covering her body. She has tried to sculpt her body by working out, though she doesn't have much interest with exercising or sports besides horse-riding. Well, some might say that horse riding has resulted in a bit of a toned look, making her not have such a soft air to her. Still, she wouldn't fit in with all the body forms of the track girls, or the basketball team. You get my drift.
It isn't hard to imagine Emily as the stay-indoors and read type. Just by looking at her skin tone, you wouldn't peg her for one of those sun-bathing obsessed girls. Emily is pretty fair skinned, not exactly pale white, but there is not much color there. It perplexes her a bit, since she does not exactly have the red-hair excuse for her lack of a tan. Her eyes are a light color, not quite a simple blue but more a slate gray color maybe. Emily will admit that she is proud of her eye color; if nothing else, it isn't as average or common. As for her skin, Emily sure isn't fond of it, but after a few failing attempts at getting a tan, she has called it quites. All she got were pretty bad sun-burns that were quite embarrassing and painful, so Emily decided she better just accept that she wasn't meant to have sun-kissed skin and apply sun-lotion before she gave herself skin cancer.
Emily's hair is the ever so common brunette, or brown to be simple. Her current hair-style is long, with some layers for volume and bangs to cover up her forehead. While Emily would love to have red hair, or maybe blond, she doesn't have anything against her hair color right now - which is good because her mother refuses to let her dye it. The exact color might be called mocha by some people, but to Emily it is just brown. Her hair is naturally straight, but thankfully not dead straight. It has a bit of wave to it, though Emily sometimes uses the help of a curling wand to make slight spirals. Emily has a round face, what some might call heart-shaped. Her face would not be considered spectacular, but she defiantly isn't ugly.
( personality )
Just like her appearance, Emily thinks that she is absolutely plain, more like a blend of the extremes of her sisters. If her older sister is loud and bubbly, the drama queen and her younger sister is silent and invisible, Em is the in-between. She likes to think of herself as a sweet, nice girl, and people tend to agree. She gives people the benefit of the doubt and feels guilty if her first impression of someone is bad. Emily is defiantly not a hateful person, it takes a lot for her to dislike a person, and she is called a sweetheart by people. She is the type that has a smile for anyone, even if they don't exactly deserve it. Em cringes away from confrontations and conflicts, which isn't always the best thing since it causes her to be a bit of a push-over.
Emily is the bookworm of her family. She is intelligent and gets the better grades of her sisters, which gets notice from her parents. Not exactly valid victorian smart, but Em does tend to get mostly A's on her grade cards and she makes honor roll almost every grading period. Being a bookworm, Emily loves to read and feels a bit off balanced if she can't find a new book to read. Unsurprisingly, English is her favorite subject and her best. She is able to pick up on symbolism and themes easily, though she is the first to admit numbers aren't her best area; although, she can't be doing too badly since she manages to scrape up good grades in math. But, Emily has always been modest. She isn't one to show off her successes or flaunt her good grades around. She also doesn't accept compliments easily, which is weird since she offers them up quite a bit herself.
( history )
Emily Elizabeth Davison is the second daughter of Bridget and William Davison. She was born three years after Kristina, and two years before Whitney. Em's childhood was traditional, which meant she got along with her family despite the usual feuds, and although she was sometimes overlooked from being the middle child, she was always within arms reach of attention if she desired ( which wasn't often ). So, the first years of Emily's life were spent on her grandparent's eventing stable while her parents worked to get their feet under them. No, her parents weren't poor; they never disappointed their daughters when it came to material items, it is just that at the time, Will was sort of in between jobs. But it turned out to work great; Bridget's parents were loving the chance to spend time with their grandchildren and they, no doubt, helped a lot with the baby-sitting and such.
So, Bridget grew up surrounded by horses and once upon a time, she was an eventer. She has since stopped riding, but she loved the chance for her daughters to spend time with the horses at the stable. Like a typical parent, she was hoping her kids would be interested in the same thing as she was. Bridget got lucky with one daughter, her middle one. Emily was confused when she was the only who grew excited when she went to the stables, or who ached to sit on the broad back of one of the older horses. Even so, this interest of hers resulted in attention and bonding time with her mother, which she loved. Sure enough, she discovered the joys of eventing when she was eight and it was just wonderful to her that she was talented at it.
As for the other aspects of Emily's life, as a young girl she looked up to her older sister and became a tag-a-long for a while. Unsurprisingly, it annoyed Kristina, but the following ceased when the sisters were at school, each in separate grades. Emily made friends of her own and left her sisters alone. Emily's school life is pretty uneventful. She had friends, she did well in school, but she always rushed home to the horses. When Emily was eleven, her grandmother died, which came as a shock to Em, but even more so for her mother. Bridget was a single child and therefore very close with her own mother. It was really unexpected, a heart attack they said, and Bridget started to slip.
Emily had already had enough grief and confusion from her grandmother's sudden death, but it was almost unbearable when her own mother went into an episode, depression; well, she was never told exactly what it was. But the jest is, Bridget starting staying in the house, then locking herself in her room. It upset the rest of her family, of course, but Emily missed her mom's wise guidance when riding, and her light joking ways. Things stayed this way for about a year, before the family was able to coax Bridget out of the house every once in a while. Emily always thought it was the horses that helped her mom the most, but she wasn't exactly sure. All she knew was that her mom was slowly reverting back to her former self and the, whatever you want to call it, was receding into the past as an awful memory.
Just after Emily started high school, the Davisons moved. It was about as unexpected as her grandmother's death. It was out of the blue, and Emily wasn't sure what to think at first. She knew how badly her parents wanted a house of their own, but then again, this had been the only home they knew. She accepted it though, and the Davisons moved to Roanoke. Still within the same state, though a few hours away from where they had lived before.
