( appearance )
When one thinks of Kaylee, petite is usually what comes to mind first. Not so much to describe her height, but how thin she is. Some consider her too skinny in fact, and have suggested she has an eating disorder. They wouldn't be too far off the bat; once upon a time, Kaylee was anorexic. It was a couple years ago, in seventh grade. You'll be happy to know that she is indeed in recovery and has gained weight. Believe it or not, she used to be even thinner, but the doctors have proclaimed that she has a healthy amount of fat and even muscle stretched over her frame. Kaylee is still thin, with hip bones that are sharp looking and slender arms and legs. It was her therapist's request that she perhaps pick up a sport as a form of exercise, and ever since grade eight Kaylee has been on the track and cross-country team, which has allowed her to form a layer of muscle over her bones.
It is a tragedy that such a pretty young girl would ever look in the mirror and see something else. Of course, no one is perfect, in looks or anything else. But, any stranger would see that Kaylee is pretty, beautiful even. Now that her too thin body is more of a lean frame, that almost sickly look to her has turned to a healthy glow. Kay has always been pale, despite the stereotype that seems to follow blond hair, but ever since she has started running and riding, she is outside more instead of locking herself away from the world. The result, a slight tan that has begun to color her skin. No longer the wan look, she looks much brighter than a few years ago.
I mentioned her blond hair. Kaylee has that blond hair, blue eyes look going for her. Actually, one might say that Kay's hair is more of a dirty blond, but that just sounds disgusting when you say it out loud. Eh. So we will just stick with blond hair and darker roots, now shall we. Blond hair blue eyes is the Harrison family legacy, like a family of barbie dolls. Kay's hair is long and straight. If there was every anything about herself this girl has admitted to liking, it is her hair. She relishes it even, refusing to cut it more than a few inches. Needless to say, Kaylee takes good care of it, using only carefully selected products on it. She can spend quite a while running a comb through it, getting everything just right. Sometimes, she'll even get out the curling iron and create little spirals in her hair. Appearance is important to Kaylee, and she takes the time to dress her small frame just right, or to carefully apply the little make-up she does wear, making sure it all brings her starling blue eyes out just right. Just about the only time she lets herself look like a mess is when she is running, or when she is at the barn.
( personality )
By nature, Kaylee has always been what some call introverted. Some people may expect blonds such as Kaylee to be all bubbly and outgoing, but that is not Kay at all. Even before her eating disorder, she has been reserved, a closed door. She has always believed in keeping most aspects of her life private and this increased heavily while she was anorexic. Her favorite place was her room, where she sat by herself, listening to music or writing. She writes a lot, keeping journals and once she was even on the school newspaper. So, people could always count on finding Kaylee curled up on her bed in her room, her cat close by. It isn't surprising that at school Kay had always been sort of shy and had a few friends, never very many. About the only person she opens up to is Jay, her older brother, but she is trying to make more friends. She still finds it difficult letting people into her private life and opening up.
Despite being so quiet and working so hard to blend in, to be invisible even, Kaylee is extremely compassionate. Her father often tells his friends proudly that she 'just had such a kind heart'. People are usually quick to notice how kind she is and caring she is even toward people she doesn't know. It is a bit ironic that Kay is able to supply a compliment to make someone feel better, able to see the best in someone, but when she looked at herself, all she saw was something that was bad and not even there. Needless to say, sometimes she likes other people more than herself. It is really quite odd. Kay is also a fierce animal lover. She begged her parents for years to get her a cat and was thrilled when her parents went along with the idea that horses could be therpy. This is also one of the reasons she is a vegitarian; the other reason is obvious.
Most people don't realize how artistic Kaylee is. Plus being a devoted writer, she is a talented at drawing. She keeps a sketch book and has a wide selection of color pencils. Another private aspect of her life, Kaylee is hesitant at best to show people her drawings even though those who do see them always flood her with compliments, her brother especially. Jay pushed her to take an art class at school and she has finally given in. Her teacher always loved her pictures, though shy Kay has yet to agree to let her pieces of work be hung on the walls or anywhere public. If you spend time with Kaylee, you'll notice that she likes to keep things organized. Her room is spotless, her clothes stacked neatly. Everything has a place and is in its place. Kay has a way of doing things carefully, doing each task percise.
( history )
( such a sloppy history, so very sorry )
Kaylee Allison Harrison was born on a spring morning, just as all the flowers were coming up and the trees budding. Her family gathered as the doctor pressed her, a tiny red-faced baby clothed in pink garmets supplied by the hospital, into the awaiting arms of the young blond woman. Charlotte Harrison a beauty who passed on her attractive looks to both her little girl and her first born, the one-year old (at the time) Jayden Harrison. Kay's father, Daniel Harrison, was beaming proudly while he held little Jay. They were a trademark family, all blond haired. Kay grew up, spending nearly every minute by Jay's side. The two were very close, the best of friends, and were sometimes mistaken for twins. Kaylee's earliest and happiest memories are of herself running on unsteady legs after her brother, desperate to keep within a close distance of him. To her, Jay had always been a source of comfort and safety.
Kaylee was very much hesitant to start school, especially since she and her brother were in seperate grades. Even as a young child, she had never been very socialable with people outside of her family and the thought of being surrounded by strange people terrified her. She actually found school wasn't so bad. She made a few friends, though she was always the quiet one in the crowd, the listener instead of the speaker. It has always been her way and it is hard to change. Anyway, her grade school years were pretty uneventful and average. Kay begged her parents for ponies, cats, dogs, ect. like any child. They always declined of course, Charlotte using the 'animals shed like crazy. our house will be a mess!' escuse over and over. By the time Kay reached middle school, both her parents were working full-time even though money had never been tight around their house.
Now, Kaylee had never been an overly confident person, but by the time seventh grade hit her self-image was wavering dangeriously. She doesn't offer up details, so no one is really sure what made her think she was too heavy. But since her parents were working a lot and Kaylee kept to herself in her room a lot, she had lost quite a bit of weight before her parents caught that she wasn't just sick. Jay had been concerned for a while, but he trusted his sister when she brushed it all off. It isn't surprising that her brother as appointed himself to look after Kay more closely, and instead of being annoyed, Kay was kind of graiteful. But after the doctors started making her go to therapy, she was a bit of an angry little girl. She was out of school for a while and she closed in even more, but her writing and drawing increased greatly. Her therapist encouraged her to keep a journal, which seemed to help Kay.
After she had gained some more weight, her doctors suggested maybe a pet would help, since it was no secret Kaylee loved animals. They bought her a kitten and leased a pony in a single month after reading an article about therapy horses. It knocked the breath out Kaylee, it surprised her, but finally she was on the road to recovery, both physically and emotionally. At her doctors request, in ninth grade she joined the track team - of course, after her doctors were sastified that the sport would do her more good than bad. Kaylee was doing very well in her first year of high school, as far as her heath goes. The girl was even trying to open up more, being encouraged by her brother, but she closed off the topic her eating disorder. After she completed ninth grade, the family decided to move, giving Kaylee a fresh start in a place were no one knew about her past and wouldn't be judged by it, so here they are at Roanoke, Virginia.

Beep. Beep. Beep. Oh, the noise was ruthless. Kaylee's eyes fluttered as her hand whipped out, trying to silence the annoying noise. Her alarm clock kept sounding until her fingers finally found the button and she pressed down, ending the horrible beeping. It was a Saturday, which ment the girl was fully entitled to settle back into her comfy bed and fall back to sleep, but Kay sat up anway. Standing up and pressing her hand to her mouth, Kaylee yawned and tiptoed to her bathroom. Flipping on the light, she peered at her reflection in the mirror, staring at the curves noticable even under her baggy t-shirt she used as pajamas. That year in seventh grade was forever etched in her mind, when she had been so digusted in herself that she had starved her body. Oh how everyone around her had worked to cure her, build up her confidence. She never told anyone that it wasn't the doctors, the thearpists, or even her parents that turned her around. Sure they helped, but as far as Kaylee was concerned all the credit when to Jay. And Millie. And Pepper.
Turning away from the mirror, Kaylee changed into her jogging shorts and shirt. She pulled the tangled mob of her blond hair into a messy bun, blowing the few strands that hung free out of her face. Grabbing her smelly old sneakers, Kay slipped out of her room and downstairs, moving with practiced silence as her family were all still asleep. Not bothering to write a note, they would know she was running, Kaylee slipped on her shoes and went out the front door, being careful not to slam it close. She started her jog slow, letting herself warm up so she didn't over-step herself too quickly. Like always, she got a catch in her ankle and her breath came out as loud puffs while her lungs readjusted. Kaylee always had to tell herself to keep going at the start of her run, to give herself a chance to get into rythum. Once she did, her body shifted into gear and she rushed forward at a steady pace.
Usually, Kaylee had her ipod to keep her company on such morning runs, but today she left it at home. Instead her blue eyes took notice of how green it was, and she heard all the birds chirping their songs, providing her music in place of her ipod. It was spring, even though she still saw a small cloud as her breath rushed out. By the time Kaylee reached her house again, gasping, she felt light and happy. As she walked back inside her house, immediatly grabbing a glass to fill with water, she head noises upstairs. That ment someone was awake and soon she wouldn't be alone. So, sipping her water, Kaylee walked to the fridge. Her mother was always so careful to make sure she knew that her daughter ate, Kay decided to make it easier for her. She really was getting better, but she acted quick to get herself something. She would feel much better if she had some of the fruit salad in the fridge then if her mother tried to give her some gooey, fatty breakfast.
Kaylee sat down after helping herself to a bowl of that fruit salad, her fork spearing one piece at a time as she chewed slowly. She carefully planned out her day, calculating how much homework she had to suffer through and happily realizing that since it was Saturday, she could spend a few hours more at the stables. She would shower first of course, and change into clean jeans. Jay would want to go too, so she would have to wait for him. Kaylee was suddenly impaitent as she thought about going to see her cute little pony, Pepper, and her paint mare, April. Was Jay awake yet? Kaylee shifted her gaze to the stairs, her fork paused over the bowl.
