OUTSIDE
Although Charlie has been admired by girls his age and cooed over by his mother's friends, he is much too modest and not vain enough to consider himself good looking, or to even care much. Of course, he knows the basics: he is short for his age, slender, soft-looking and pale and, apparently, he looks like his father - or so he has been told. Charlie resembles his brother greatly at least. But anyone who knew Brandan knew he was attractive, but serious and almost cold, his face sharp edges, even harsh. Charlie's face seems to blend and flow together. His cheek bones are smooth, his face actually kind of soft looking. Some people might point out that this makes him more feminine, but thats all opinion. Truthfully, some translate the soft lines of his face to be sweet, which is true. His flaws are noticeable, just like anyone else. His lips are thin, his teeth aren't totally straight, he is prone to small, light pimples on his forehead and chin at times, and Charlie has a faint scar along his chin, where he busted it as a kid. So, yes, he doesn't have that ruggedly handsome look of a jock or the perfect features of a model or movie star, but Charlie still has that cute, attractive appeal.
The three things you usually notice first about Charlie, more most times, are his hair, skin, and eyes. First of all, his hair is so pretty and not at all like his mother. Both Charlie and Keven have their father's black hair, ink black, and it is nothing like their mother's flowing red veil or Caitlyn's auburn waves or even Brian's brunette mess. Charlie wears his hair longer than his brother's short-cut, though not as long as you see on some teenage boys these days. It is a nice medium length that often looks like it was styled carelessly, if styled at all. It isn't uncommon to see the hair on the top of his head standing up, all ruffled like. Like any mother, Alaine fusses over how messy it is, but Charlie could care less. As for his skin, his whole family seems to have the same skin tone expect for maybe Brian. The seemingly lack of pigment is so much more noticeable next to the darkness of his hair. Charlie has never been able to tan, who knows why, but he burns quite easily. Actually, Charlie probably has himself all set for an adulthood of skin cancer from all the nasty burns he as acquired over the years, most of them from after he moved from Ireland.
Now for his eyes. Far away, it is hard to guess what color they are. All you know is they defiantly aren't blue but could either be light brown or green. Actually, they are sort of a hazel color, with more green than brown. If you had to ask Charlie what he liked most about himself, without hesitation he would say his eyes - they are a variation of the shade his mother and brother have. Of course, all of these features, the pale skin, dark hair and green eyes, seem to be carelessly picked and thrown together. Who would have though such three qualities would work together, but they do.
Lastly, his body build. Looking at Charlie, it isn't hard to imagine him as the scrawny child he was. He has grown into himself a bit, but he will never be considered brawn and muscles. He has always been a bit on the short side, and slender. When he was younger, he was like a twig, so very fragile looking. It doesn't help that his skin is so pale - it just made him look that more breakable. He might be the type that would attract school bully's like a magnet if it were for two things: one) his older brother was much more muscular and didn't shy away from fights and two) his sweet and kind personality just made it hard for people to dislike him. So, now he isn't as gawky and lanky, but he still probably won't ever find himself on a sports team.
INSIDE
Is Charlie as sweet as he looks? Yes, yes he is. Charlie is just so kind, people seem to like to talk to him. He has always been very polite and friendly, unlike Keven who many people suspected to be bi-polar; sometimes he was as nice as his younger brother, then you turn around and he is bitter and grumpy. Anyway, Charlie is one of those guys who still believes in chivalry, or some might say he is a gentleman. He'll do small things, like holding doors for girls or letting them walk in front of him. He cringes away from being rude, mostly because he is horrified that people can say such cruel things. Charlie is quite shy and he is the sort to hang along the frindges, stay to the back. When he does talk, his voice is very soft and some claim it is musical like, only because he still has a slight, but noticable, Irish accent that hasn't completely gone away.
His bad traits are that Charlie gets embarssed and nervous easily. He hates public speaking and presentations and his voice always gets a slight quiver to it. He is an easy blusher, which is about the only color he has in his skin. Charlie is very sensitive to tone and it doesn't take much for him to flush a nice shade of red. Another trait about himself that Charlie absolutely hates is the fact that he is a push-over. He finds it hard to say no to people but he is working on it - thankfully he has yet to fall to peer pressure to do drugs.

HIS PAST
Alaine Burke was young and in love at the age of eighteen. She had been dating Brandan O'Connell, three years her senior, for quite some time and declared that she wanted to get married, right away, so the couple rushed into it. Both were natives to Dublin, Ireland and Alaine was a beauty with her long, wavy hair, bright red in color while Brandan was quite attractive himself with a handsome face and jet black hair. They were a rather odd couple, for Alaine was short and as wild as her hair, loud and fun-loving. Brandan supplied the more mature, quiet side and somehow it worked. They had barley just gotten married when they announced that they would be having a baby. Keven was their first son, and Alaine gave birth to him at the age of eighteen. Two years later, they gave birth to a nearly identical boy, whom they named Charlie Brandan.
People always tell Charlie and Keven that they look like their father, not that they would know. But sure, both had his pale skin, black hair and somewhat slender build. Though, Charlie doesn't remember his father much. So much for 'true love' since when Charlie was four, Brandan just up and went. Keven claims to remember that day since he was six and therefore about to retain some events for memories, but all Charlie knows is that his father was there one day, and the next he wasn't. He hasn't been seen or heard from since. Being so young at the time, he isn't really sure what happened; all Charlie has to go off of is second hand knowledge passed on from his brother, and the rare comment from Aliane. Apparently, Brandan wasn't adjusting well to this life or he simply fell out of love with his wife. Whatever the reason, he just left Aliane, only 24 at the time, with two young children.
They stayed where they were though, in that same house in Dublin, Ireland. Life was pretty good for Charlie; he idolized his brother and followed him around quite a bit. Keven for the most part was flattered that his little brother looked up to him so much, so he allowed him to tag along, though he did try to put some distance between them once he started to go school and make friends. Three years after the disappearance of Brandan, Charlie was seven, the boys came home from school and Aliane announced that they were moving. To America. Charlie was excited, very thrilled by the idea while Keven was reluctant. He was still harboring hopes that his father would one day come back, but since Charlie barely remembered Brandan, he didn't feel the absence of a father figure. Of course, like always, parent's vote overrides the children's opinion, so they all packed up and moved to California.
It was brilliant there. Little Charlie was so hyped up about how different it was here. Back home, it was overcast most of the time with cool summers, but here there were clear skys, beaches, and heat. They were enrolled into schools that fall, and Charlie was surprised how easily he made new friends and how enchanted all the other kids seemed to be over his Irish accent. In truth, Charlie was thriving in his new home while Keven was grumpy and homesick. Aliane also seemed to be doing well, first with finding a job and then with the men. Of course, Charlie and Keven paid no attention to their mother's love interests until one day she brought one man home around when Charlie was nine. He adored Brian Lewis, who was just a bit older than his mum and doing quite well in the area of income. It was Brian who introduced Charlie to horses and the young boy will be forever grateful.
Truthfully, Charlie had never paid much mind to horses. Sure, he admired them but he never actually invisioned himself riding one. But Brian had grown up around the beautiful creatures and loved equestrian. It an attempt to put himself in Aliane's children's good graces, he took them all on a trail ride. Keven complained and wasn't very impressed, he was much more interested in sports, Aliane found it fun but wasn't all that keen to invest regular time to riding. Brian's popularity with Charlie went through the roof. Before long, whenever the young boy saw his mother's boyfriend, the first thing out of his mouth was "Can we go see the horses today?" This made Brian happy, being able to get 'male bonding time' and getting along with at least one of Aliane's kids. The answer was usually yes, or at least soon.
Just around the time Charlie turned ten, Brian and Aliane got married. Charlie was enthusiastic and approved greatly so he was confused that Keven was holding back and seemed ill tempered. He later found out that Keven, twelve at that time, was just dealing with the feeling that they were betraying Brandan or something. It took him a while to understand that Brian made Aliane more happy than Brandan ever did, but he eventually accepted his new step-father. Sadly, he took a step back after his mother announced to the two boys that soon they would have a new brother or sister as she proudly showed off the ultrasound picture. Keven was bitter for a while, only because he felt betrayed that his mother wanted another child even though she already had two. Charlie was unsure of what to think; he shared similar feelings with his brother for a short while before growing excited. He had always been the youngest, and now he would get to experience being an older brother.
Then the newly formed family made another move, this time back to Brian's hometown in Colorado. They lived in the country, near Brian's parent's ranch. Of course, Charlie was thrilled when he learned there were horses there. It was at this ranch, actually, that Charlie first saw Darcy, who was young and being trained at the time. Anyway, they settled down quickly and by the time Charlie was eleven, he had a new little sister named Caitlyn. She was a beauty, with auburn hair and bright green eyes. Charlie adored her and was forever spending time with his younger sister. Just a year later, when he turned twelve, Charlie received his first horse - you guessed it, Darcy. Over the next few years, Charlie stayed true to his goal to be a protective older brother and three new horses made their way into the Burke-Lewis house-hold. Brian had bought two mustang geldings that had be captured by the nearby BLM center then trained by the Wild Horse Inmate Program along with a roan filly born on Brian's parent's ranch.
While the two mustangs were supposed to be mounts for Brian and Aliane/Keven, the latter two didn't show an interest and Brian miscalculated how much free time he had, so Charlie got stuck with all four of the horses - not that he minded. Very recently, Brian was promoted to a much better position in the company he worked for, which meant two things: one) better pay and two) they were moving again, this time to Virginia.
