Newly getting her license, the blonde girl parked her red ford ranger close to the Valley View Mall. It was time for some fall clothes. She needed to dress warm if she was planning to ride during the season. Plus she could just use some new clothes. Her mom had given her some money before she left anyways and it had been a long time since she had gotten a new pair of jeans. Sammy made sure her truck was locked before entering the mall area. It was a happening place for sure. She walked in and already people began to crowd around her. She smiled without noticing it and she made her way through the crowd to the directory.
Sammy was wearing something she had bought last year. A pair of jeans with holes patched everywhere on purpose. She was a stylish girl and attractive. She wore a long-sleeved, pink, fuzzy shirt with a brown and black striped scarf around it. Like always, she wore a matching pink hat and brown closed-toed shoes. Her hair was down and wavy. It was her natural hair and she was proud of it. She found a directory and began browsing the clothing stores. American Eagle was a must to go to. They had the best jeans but were pricey. Hollister was a bit out-dated for her these days. But first, she'd try JCPenney.
Unfortunately she was on the opposite side of the store. She grinned and began to walk through the mall aisles, spotting people of every different kind. Where she lived before only had an outlet mall, and it was very small. So it was very exciting for Sammy to check out a busy and happening place for once. She knew that soon she'd make some good and close friends, maybe even that will be willing to ride. Or even better, show her around the barn a bit if they already ride there. She couldn't wait for this life to begin.

Paige was a bit annoyed. It was quite plain on her face. The skin inbetween her eyebrows were wrinkled in a way that someone passing by would quickly label cute without taking the care to actually look at her expression overall. Her hazel eyes were narrowed furiously as they glanced at the screen on her phone. Yes, everyone told her that texting wasn't the best idea while driving. But Paige couldn't care less what people say right now. She was already in a bad mood since she woke up to her parent's arguing this morning. Couldn't they wait until after breakfeast to start their now daily routinue of going back and forth? At least then Paige would have had a chance to be out the door beforehand and wouldn't have to hear their angry voices going back and forth. But of course, someone had to ruin the unusual tranquil that and engulfed Paige's room when she had awoken. Paige was annoyed enough with her parent's current status of fighting constantly, but it made it even worse that they had started before she could get anything to eat, making the need for an earlier than usual get-away. Couldn't they take up marriage therapy or something, or even, she cringed to think, divorce if only to give themselves and their kids peace of mind. To make matters worse, Jane had cancled their shopping trip.
What exactly her best friend was doing, Paige had no idea. But of course, her timing was awful. Paige was already practally at the mall and she certainly had no desire to head home. She could always go to the stables early, but Paige was in great need of new clothes, especially riding jeans. With a sigh, the girl pulled into the Valley View Mall parking lot with her 2006 silver Honda Accord. A few moments later, Paige Pierce was stepping through the mall's doors as she pondered on which store she should hit first. If Jane had been able to make it, instead of skipping out due to some family thing, there was no doubt Paige's confident, sometimes over confident best friend would take the lead. So, instead, Paige just walked forward and followed the crowd, hazel eyes searching for any store she found interesting. Her annoyance had faded, so her face had softened into the natural and simple beauty she had. A hand reached up to smooth her dark brown hair, whose ends were just now reaching her chin after being butchered by Paige. She used to have long flowing hair with waves to it, which her mother loved. Thats probably why Paige had chopped it all off- her parents disappointed her by their constant fighting, so she was fully entitled to disappoint them.
As Paige entered JCPenny, she tried to think of anything but her parents. How about her horses, her two beautiful Thoroughbreds. Paige adored the long leged and lean breed, which is why she had a black mare and a gray gelding. Prudence and Phantom, her loves. It was so easy to spend all day with the two, which also provided the plus of being out of the 'war-zone', aka, her house. But her thoughts were distracted as she came upon some cute sweaters. Paige loved casual clothes, to her mother dismay, and she went for comfort rather than elegance. But that didn't mean she looked unfashionable. For example, today Paige had dressed her tall, skinny body in faded blue jeans, a green sweatshirt, a yellow scarf and white sneakers. She was pleased with what she put together, espically since it hid some of the jig-saw sharpness her hips and limbs had. Paige caught sight of a red sweatshirt and she walked over to it. As she looked at the piece of clothing she couldn't help but mumble outloud. Hmm, wouldn't that look good next to Prudence's coat. Black horses always look good with red. An embaressed smile appeared on her face as she wondered if anyone had heard her random words.

As Sammy entered the store, she first laid her eyes on a purple jacket. She loved bright colors that catches everyone's eyes. She smiled and almost squealed with excitement. She found her size and through it on over her pink shirt. She definitely wouldn't wear this shirt with this jacket if she got it, but immediately she fell in love with it. Sammy loved to shop, and when she found one thing she couldn't stop shopping. She checked herself out in the mirror, fixing her hair and smiling at her reflection in the 5-way mirror in the fitting room.
Sammy took the jacket off and walked back to where she had left the hanger. It was then when Sammy noticed a manican had the same jacket on as she just tried on and she ran over to check out the whole outfit. She liked it. Jeans, a really cute hat! It was all so perfect. Suddenly she heard a few mumbles behind her. Something about a horse?! No way! Without trying to be creeperish or somewhat like an eavesdropper, Sammy tilted her head backwards to see who said it. A brunette girl stood behind her looking at a red sweatshirt.
Funny. Maybe she wasn't a local, kinda like Sammy. Wouldn't she rather go to the mall with a friend or two? Sammy found it a little odd, but maybe, if she got lucky, she'd make the introduction un-awkward. She wanted to meet the girl. She looked her own age and after hearing the 'horse' part of her mumbling to herself she just couldn't resist. She was desperate to meet a horse-crazy person like herself.
Sammy shifted backwards a little and pointed towards the red sweatshirt. You're right. That would look really good with a black horse. Do you have one? Sammy tried to not make it awkward, which was hard for her. Sometimes, she would speak her mind without even realizing it sometimes. Bad habit for her she thought. Sammy waited eagerly for an answer. She couldn't wait to get to the barn and look at horses for sale and lessons up for grabs, and it would be even better if someone, maybe like this girl, could tell her about it, instead of Sammy having to find everything out herself. Maybe if she wasn't too busy, the girl could show her around the barn... if she was lucky. It was all she could think about ever since she first got on the train to the equestrian center.

Paige nibbled her bottom lip, a habit her mother hated, a habit that the tall girl often took up while in deep thought. Of course, one might argue that shopping hardly required deep thinking, but I guess everyone has their own opinion. A sigh escaped through a pause in her nibbling, the sound very soft, almost inaudiable. She really liked the the sweatshirt, and not only because it the color would strike well against a horse's black coat, or even a gray one like her Phantom. She almost laughed at herself as she wondered the last time she had decided her on her outfits with how they would look on her horses in mind. Paige had no doubt that her mother would scold her, and Jane would burst into loud giggles. These thoughts just had to cross her mind and it rekindled a spark of the annoyance from earlier. It was just a shadow of the emotion she had felt in the car, but it reminded Paige that she was alone in the mall, which was depressing, and even more so when you put in that she didn't have anyone else to call. Sure, she wasn't new to the town or anything, but besides her brother and sister, Paige Pierce spent most of her time with Jane. Her best friend got easily impatient with people and she just honestly had no desire to go out and meet no people lately.
Paige was running her hand through her chopped hair, the ends just starting to reach her chin. Her hazel eyes were occupied by looking over the red strands of the sweatshirt and searching out the price tag, hoping it was on sale, so the girl didn't see the other person come up. A voice reached her ears, and Paige looked up, her eyes flickering to the face of a blonde girl who looked about her age, maybe... She wasn't good at guessing age. Almost at once her mouth tilted up into a half smile. Maybe she wouldn't have to shop all alone. Sure, she didn't know the girl, but she seemed nice, and she mentioned horses. That could give them a common subject to talk about. Paige answered at once, her voiced filled with warmth and had a friendly tone to it. Unlike Jane, Paige was comfortable with meeting new people. Yeah, I do. A Thoroughbred; I have a gray one too, actually. Do you ride? She turned, facing the blonde girl. Paige didn't recongize the girl - yes, its near impossible to know everyone in a town, but wouldn't she have seen the girl at school? Maybe she was new, which might explain why she was shopping alone. But there was always the possibly someone bailed on her like herself.
Anyway, it didn't really matter much if she had seen the girl before or not. Paige's hazel eyes slid to the red sweater that was now in her hands for a second. She really should say something, keep the conversation going, but for a rare moment she was braindead on what to say. Then she realized, she didn't know the other girls name and hadn't offered her name either. I'm Paige Pierce by the way. I don't think I've met you before... Her voice softened at the end, trailing off a bit to leave the girl a chance to either confirm or correct her. She almost hoped she hadn't seen her before, since that would seem rude on Paige's part. But she waited paitently, her smile small but warm.
